Orlando Magic run it back. Reach Deals With Mo Wagner, Gary Harris and Jonathan Isaac
ORLANDO, FL – The Orlando Magic are working to run back the successful team from the 2023-24 season.
This week, the Magic reached several deals to ensure the services of Jonathan Isaac, Moritz Wagner, and Gary Harris.
Orlando reached an extension with Isaac, who led the team in blocks and was instant energy on defense, though he maxed out at 58 games last season. Based on his talent, they are willing to take the risk on the forward despite his repeated injuries.
On Tuesday, Isaac agreed to a 5-year, $84 million contract renegotiation and extension, an NBA source confirmed to the Orlando Sentinel.
Isaac was entering the final year of his 4-year, $69.9 million rookie contract extension he signed in December 2020. His $17.4 million salary for the 2024-25 season was non-guaranteed but would have become fully guaranteed if he’d remained on the roster past Jan. 10.
The Magic also reached agreements to bring back Gary Harris and Goga Bitadze on Monday night.
Harris intends to sign a 2-year, $14 million contract to stay with Orlando, ESPN first reported.
The deals with Harris and Bitadze come right after the Magic made a national splash by agreeing to a deal with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for 3 years, $66 million. The two-time NBA champ is a nice fit for Orlando’s young group, choosing to leave the Denver Nuggets for sunny central Florida.
In other moves, the Magic drafted Tristan De Silva of Colorado at number 18 in the NBA Draft. De Silva is a solid defensive player with a high basketball IQ and is also expected to improve the team’s shooting.
Orlando also guaranteed Caleb Houstan‘s $2.01 million salary for the 2024-25 season.
The Magic declined the options of Moritz Wagner, Joe Ingles, and Chuma Okeke.
Orlando agreed to a 2-year, $22 million contract with Wagner to return to Orlando, where he’s spent the last three full seasons.
The franchise had declined Wagner’s club option this past weekend, which made him an unrestricted free agent when NBA free agency opened Sunday night. The Sentinel reported that both sides were interested in continuing discussions this week to strike a new contract to keep Wagner alongside his younger brother, Franz Wagner.
